RECREATION LEVEL 1 - VAULT & TRAMPOLINE
Watch each skill video below, then complete the knowledge check at the end of this section. Rec 1 Vault focuses on developing a proper run, correct foot and body position on the springboard, and a tight, extended body position after the punch.
SEATED ARM SWINGS
Introduces the proper arm action used during the vault run. Performing the movement from a seated position allows athletes to focus on coordinated arm movement without worrying about the legs or running technique.
STANDING ARM SWINGS
Builds on the arm action introduced in Seated Running Arm Swings by adding proper standing posture and body position. Athletes learn to coordinate strong, controlled arm movement while maintaining a tall body, preparing them to use the same arm action during the vault run and hurdle.
STANDING ARM SWINGS WITH HIGH KNEES
Builds on Standing Arm Swings by adding the leg action used during the vault run. Athletes learn to coordinate strong arm swings with high knee drive while maintaining tall posture and control, helping develop proper running mechanics for a faster, more powerful vault approach.
STEP JUMP ONE TO TWO
Introduces the basic footwork and rhythm needed to transition from a one-foot takeoff to a two-foot landing. Athletes learn to step forward, jump from one foot, and bring the feet together with control, helping develop the coordination needed for the vault hurdle and two-foot springboard punch.
Builds on the Step Jump One to Two by performing the skill from an elevated surface onto the springboard. Athletes learn to transition from a one-foot takeoff into a quick two-foot punch on the board, developing the rhythm, foot placement, and body control needed for a proper vault hurdle and springboard punch.
RUN, HURDLE, PUNCH
Brings the basic Rec 1 vault approach together into one continuous movement. Athletes learn to use a controlled accelerating run, transition into the hurdle, and finish with a quick two-foot punch on the springboard, developing the rhythm, coordination, and body control needed for future vault skills.
STRETCH JUMP, TUCK JUMP, SEAT DROP
Trampoline drills are used to reinforce the body shapes and tension required for vaulting.
