RECREATION LEVEL 1 - BARS

Watch each skill video below, then complete the knowledge check at the end of this section. The primary goal of Rec Bars 1 is to introduce the basic strength, body shapes, and bar positions needed for future bar skills. Athletes will begin developing support, pulling, casting, swinging, and pullover fundamentals through the following skills and progressions:

STEM RISE, OVERGRIP & UNDERGRIP

Develops the pulling strength needed to rise toward the bar with straight arms and control, while teaching the proper hand-shifting action for both overgrip and undergrip positions.

FRONT SUPPORT

Teaches the basic support position on bars, emphasizing straight arms, a tight body, and the strength needed to hold the body above the bar.

CAST

Introduces the athlete to pushing over the bar while maintaining straight arms and a tight body, beginning the heel-drive action used in more advanced bar skills.

WALKUP PULLOVER

Introduces the pullover action by using the feet for assistance while teaching the athlete to pull toward the bar and rotate the body into front support.

SWING AND REGRIP

Develops basic swinging mechanics and teaches athletes to release and regrip the bar while maintaining a controlled hollow-to-arch body action.
