RECREATION LEVEL 3 - VAULT
Watch each skill video below, then complete the knowledge check at the end of this section. The primary goal of Rec Vault 3 is to begin putting the vault approach and Handstand Flatback progressions together. Athletes should continue building on all Rec 1 & Rec 2 Vault fundamentals while developing greater power, straight-arm support, open shoulders, and the body positions needed for a complete Handstand Flatback.
STRETCH JUMP
Similar to the rec 2 Vault, athletes should now begin their stretch jump to a higher mat stack.
HANDSTAND FLATBACK WITH ASSISTANCE
Begins putting the vault approach and Handstand Flatback together with coach assistance. Athletes learn to run, hurdle, punch the springboard, and reach into the handstand position while maintaining straight arms, open shoulders, and a tight body before landing safely on the back.
HANDSTAND FLATBACK WITH SHORT APPROACH
Progresses the Handstand Flatback by using a shortened run into the hurdle and springboard punch. Athletes focus on creating power while maintaining straight arms, open shoulders, and a tight body through the Handstand Flatback.
STRADDLE JUMP
Introduces the straddle shape in the air while developing coordination and body control. Athletes focus on straight legs, pointed toes, and an upright chest before bringing the legs back together for a controlled landing.
PIKE JUMP
Introduces the pike shape while maintaining control in the air. Athletes focus on straight legs together, pointed toes, and reaching the upper body toward the legs before returning to a straight body position for landing.
BACK DROP
Introduces controlled backward rotation and safe body contact with the trampoline. Athletes learn to maintain a tight body position while landing evenly on the upper back and returning to their feet with control.
DONKEY KICKS
Develops straight-arm support, shoulder strength, and heel drive while teaching athletes to lift the hips over the shoulders. Athletes learn to drive the heels upward, reinforcing the same heel-drive action needed to create rotation and reach the Handstand position in future vault skills.
